MEET THE TEAM: BRETT FORDYCE

After beginning his career in Auditing, Associate Financial Adviser Brett Fordyce made the move to financial planning as he sought a more client-focused role.

Having just commenced a Master of Financial Planning when joining VISIS, Brett was also keen to build on practical skills that would complement his studies. During his time at VISIS, Brett has successfully stepped up from junior associate to associate and now works more independently.

“I use my developing skills to assist Chris and the other Advisers to provide tailored advice for new and existing clients by building holistic financial models – my tasks include working around areas of investment, insurance, home loans and ongoing client reviews,” he said.

“I took the jump to financial planning as I’ve always had an interest in it – it’s what my father did for most of his career so I uniquely understand the value of advisers and how we can grow financial confidence for our clients.”

On VISIS’ workplace culture, Brett said he was fortunate to be a part of a close-knit team always ready to support each other.

“All the different teams, skills, and specialties work together seamlessly to create better outcomes for people according to their individual situation meaning each employee has a part to play which is ultimately very rewarding,” he said.

“Having a strong client-first attitude ensures we’re all working towards one common goal.”

A particularly rewarding moment for Brett was securing a home loan in a short amount of time for a client looking to purchase their dream home to start a family.

“In the current property market, they were required to put an offer in before an auction which I supported them with. They were very grateful for the work we put in and we were all thrilled with the outcome,” he said.

“It’s common for people to think they’ll still need to do a lot of work themselves when engaging with a financial adviser, but the beauty of VISIS is we’re able to take the load off and manage every aspect of a client’s finances if they require.”

For young people looking to enter the industry, Brett encouraged people to take the leap and not be afraid to get started.

“There’s a lot of need for young people to enter the industry so there are opportunities for positions without any experience prerequisites. Once you get started, the amount of learning and real work experience leads to an exponential growth of your skills – as long as you’re willing to put in the time,” he said.

Brett often heads to the Sunshine Coast on the weekends to spend time by the beach and with his family.

This could be because they tend to produce lower yields than shares (particularly in low interest rate environments), or simply because many investors don’t know enough about this asset class.
